COMMUNMICATE EFFECTIVELY WITH CHILDREN WORKSHOP: Participants will learn how to speak to children about their child’s goals, problem areas and problematic behaviour. 

WHY you should attend:
Parents / Educators will learn how to use our practical tools with children to encourage problem-solving while promoting self-confidence and maintaining self-esteem.  The key is a solution focused approach in which the discussion of your child's problem is the catalyst for their empowerment.  Parents using these empowering methods have witnessed rapid transformation in their children.  

Our unique workshop integrates elements of Narrative Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.  Together, these proven models of understanding and changing human behaviour provide practical and useful methods for helping children succeed.

Our interactive workshop includes examples and anecdotes that explore the practical applications of these methods.

WHAT you will learn:

·         Innovative ways to help children conceptualize their problems

·         New techniques to promote discussion and problem-solve with children

·         The value in setting a parenting agenda  

·         How to promote self-efficacy in children

·         How to use your language so that problems are externalized and why that is important 

·         How to improve your child's confidence and self-esteem 

·         How to increase confidence in your own parenting skills 

Workshop Formats:
Program A consists of a 90 minute workshop which focuses on parents with children ranging from 4-13 years of age.

Program B consists of two 90 minute workshops:  
-The first workshop focuses on parents with children 4-8 years of age. 
-The second workshop focuses on parents with children 9-13 years of age.

FUNDING

Empowered Parent Workshops are designed to meet the Ontario Ministry of Education ‘Parents Reaching Out Grants for School Councils‘ Program launched in 2006.  This grant offers funding for projects that are designed to enhance the participation of parent involvement in their child's achievement. 

Applications may be submitted by school councils individually or in partnership with other school councils in the same board.  The maximum grant amount is $1,000 per school council.  Several schools have received funding through the PRO Grant for our workshop in past years.  Participants and school councils have found our workshops effective.

EMPOWERED KIDS WORKSHOP: Helping children build their self-esteem

WHY your child should attend:

·         This fun and dynamic workshop teaches children to recognize the power of their words and their thinking in a playful environment

·         Facilitated by experienced and specially trained personnel that are committed to recognizing the potential in each child

·         By using real examples that children use regularly, alternative methods of handling daily stressors are presented, described and demonstrated

·         Participants are given many opportunities to practice strategies taught during the program

WHAT your child will learn:

·         The interplay between thoughts, feelings and actions.

·         Psycho-physiology of the brain

·         Awareness of their own behaviour and self-talk

·         How to take charge of their physical, intellectual and emotional development

·         How to communicate more effectively

·         How to tap into their own creativity

·         How to use visualization to reach goals

Workshop Format:

Over 6 weeks, we will teach children practical strategies for maintaining self-confidence, problem solving, dealing with conflict and how to become self-motivating. 

This workshop is appropriate for children in Grades 3 – 6.  The program will start 15 minutes after school ends.
